What's a list?

I am just going to admit it, I am a shopaholic even at HEB. Simply like any other time, I made a list of all the groceries I needed to survive the week. The plan was to by nothing extra, and simply get only the necessities.             As I drove around HEB for what felt like an hour, looking for a parking spot, my blood pressure began to rise. You know what I mean, if you have ever been to San Marcos’ HEB because there is never any parking. Finally, after finding a spot at the very end, I took the time to coach myself to only get the things that were on my list. Nothing else! I told myself such things as “you do not need any extra junk food,” “or any other random food you think you might need.”             Following a lot of mental preparation, I finally took on the task of grocery shopping. The idea was to...

Challenge of a kindergarten substitute

Teaching is one thing, but being a substitute teacher is a completely different story.   If you are ever given the opportunity or challenge of being a kindergarten substitute, I feel for you. Today, in my internship class, the instructor was a substitute and boy, did she have her work cut out for her. I spent the entire day laughing at the students as they corrected every move made by the substitute. I believe that she couldn’t even breathe right without one of them saying something. Don’t get me wrong, the children were not mean or rude, they were simply used to their routine and regular teacher.   It is actually a compliment to their teacher to know that they enjoy her style of teaching so much that they believed anything different was incorrect. One example of the substitute’s “error” occurred as we were doing calendar on the board and comparing one to one with two children’s names. The substitute began writing the addition problem in conjunction with the number of let...

What would you of done as the teacher?

Today was my 2 nd day in the classroom for my internship class. The morning started out with the receipt of an email from my head teacher stating we were going to have a child in class who does not like to be touched. My immediate thought was okay, I can relate as I do not like being touched either. I did find it a little odd that a kindergartener didn’t want to be touched, because most little kids love hugs and attention. That was just an inclination as to the unusual situation that unfolded throughout the morning. As I’m in the classroom, watching the other children, a little boy entered about an hour late, ate his breakfast, and then joined in on what the whole class was doing. During the beginning of the lesson, he kept up with the teacher and the class, but as the teacher continued to teach, the little boy got up and took the other children’s math manipulative and threw them on the floor. He then proceeded to grab the crayons, markers, and posters on the table and began throwi...
Today in my university reading class I was told that we were going to have to make a blog. I immediately thought NO!! This isn't happening!!! I'm a horrible writer and awful at spelling so how am I suppose to blog? It is so bad that even a 3rd grader from my after school program corrected my spelling. How embarrassing is that! Fear is not something that I let consume me, but when it comes to writing or test taking, I definitely have a phobia. After many minutes of contemplation and nerves, I came to my senses and realized there is no way of getting out of it. It is just another step in my education process that I have no choice but to complete. I began the thought process about what I might blog about? Nothing exciting in my life ever seems to happen, and I pretty much keep the same daily schedule. (Yes, I am a creature of habit.) Each morning, I wake up and start my daily routine, which includes eating breakfast, going to school, then work, and finally home for dinner, home...
